Our Math MCAS tests are now over, and once again I am proud of the children's efforts. The test took less time than the ELA test, but still required concerted effort. They worked hard, maintaining silence for more than an hour  ... which is not easy ... especially when Spring is here!

 

With an eye toward encouraging summer reading, we are working in "book clubs" to explore some new self-selected books. These groups are very informal, and designed to remind the children that reading is "fun", not just something you need to do for a test :-) Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the book clubs, or how you can encourage your child to read more this summer.

 

For the remainder of the year, I am giving the children more freedom in selecting their Spelling lists for each week. Some children are eager to try the alternative lists, and I want to be sure they have an opportunity to "push themselves" a little bit. Some children would prefer to stay on the original lists, and that's fine, too. Please let me know if you notice this impacting your child in a "less than positive" way, and I will be happy to help them make a different plan.
